Health systems research
ADREU understands that the quality of high performance diagnostics is not sufficient to ensure product success in today’s healthcare market. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to construct and implement research to explore and evaluate the impact of new technologies in health systems.
ADREU partners with Industry and academic collaborators in both commercially and grant funded research to conduct studies to explore local facilitators and barriers of technology procurement and use, and epidemiological and clinical studies to evaluate real-life impacts of these technologies on patient care.
Our research in Health Systems includes:
- A service evaluation of providing same-day results using the Cepheid CT/NG GeneXpert in an inner London further education college. One NG and 6 CT positives were detected from 42 students, none of whom had planned on being tested otherwise. A pilot study in a Further Education (FE) college to explore the feasibility of providing rapid, on-site Cepheid CT/NG GeneXpert testing with results within 2 hours, and same day treatment if required (‘Test n Treat’). Of 34 samples provided, 3 were CT positive, with 2 treated on the same day on-site.
- A service evaluation of point-of-care and rapid tests in a UK Sexual Health Clinic, which showed that the Cepheid CT/NG GeneXpert 90 minute turnaround time was too long to direct most patients’ clinical management as most patients left before results were available, and that non-molecular point-of-care tests for BV and TV led to more diagnoses compared with standard practice.
- Stakeholder engagement to explore the feasibility and acceptability of implementing rapid tests for antimicrobial resistance (Precise )
